AI rank tracker: where you stand in AI answers
An AI rank tracker measures your position inside AI-written answers: for each buyer question, whether ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude name your business, in what order, and next to which competitors. It differs from a Google rank tracker in one way that matters: there is no fixed list of ten results, so it has to sample each question repeatedly and report rates, not a single position.

AI rank tracking vs Google rank tracking
The two answer different questions, and most businesses now need both.
- What is tracked. A Google rank tracker follows a keyword and a URL. An AI rank tracker follows a question and a business name.
- What counts as a rank. On Google it is a numbered slot. In an AI answer it is whether you are named at all, then your order in a short list of two to five names.
- How stable it is. Google results move slowly. AI answers can differ between two runs a minute apart, so one check is not a rank.
- What it reports. Google trackers report position and estimated traffic. AI rank trackers report mention rate, average position, share of voice and the sources the engine cited.
The metrics an AI rank tracker should give you
- Mention rate: the share of sampled answers that name you.
- Average position: your order in the list when you are named.
- Share of voice: your mentions as a share of all business mentions for the question set, next to each competitor’s.
- Citations: which pages the engine cited, including your own.
- Per-engine split: the same numbers for ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude separately, since they rarely agree.
The glossary defines each term, and what is AI visibility explains how they fit together.
How Frontpagely ranks you in AI answers
Frontpagely builds the question set from your own business inputs, runs every question across all four engines (several times per run on paid plans), and records names, order and citations. The results roll up into your SeenRate: AI answers carry 50 percent, search signals 35 percent and site health 15 percent, under a public methodology. Your Google standing is part of the score because the engines search the web before they answer.
When a competitor overtakes you or a new one starts being named, you get an email. The gaps become a ranked fix plan, and on WordPress the low-risk fixes can be applied for you after you approve them, then re-checked.
Five questions to ask before you pick one
- Which engines are included on the plan you would buy? Some tools charge extra per engine.
- Where do the questions come from? A prompt set built from your services and location beats a generic keyword list.
- How many samples per question? One sample per run is an anecdote.
- Does it show who was named instead, and what was cited? That is where the fixes come from.
- Does it help you change the result? A ranked fix plan, and proof that a fix went live, are worth more than a chart.

Frequently asked questions
Can you rank number one in ChatGPT?
You can be named first often, but no one can guarantee it. AI answers are generated and change with model updates, so the honest target is a higher mention rate and a better average position over time.
Is there a free AI rank tracker?
Frontpagely has a free plan that measures one business monthly across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude, and a free audit you can run now without a card.
Do Google rankings affect AI rankings?
Yes, indirectly. ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity search the web before answering, so pages that rank well are more likely to be read and cited. That is why Frontpagely blends search signals into the score.
How long until AI rankings change after a fix?
Usually weeks. The engines re-crawl pages and listings on their own schedules, so judge a change by the trend across several runs.
